Formatting Your MacBook: How to Erase Your Mac
To completely reset your device and delete all files, follow these steps:

- Click on the Apple icon (apple icon) in the upper left corner of the screen.
- The "General" option will appear in the side menu. Click on it.
- On the right you will see ''Transfer and reset''. Click it.
- The option to "Erase all content and settings" will appear. Click on it.
If you don't see this last button, it may be due to your Mac model. The erase all content and settings feature is currently only available on macOS Monterey and later versions of Monterey, such as Ventura.
macOS Monterey MacBook Reset
- Click on the Apple icon (apple icon) in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Go to System Preferences.
- The option to "Erase all content and settings" will appear. Click on it.

MacBook Erase All Content Settings or MacBook Reset
If your Mac doesn't have the "Erase all content and settings" feature, follow the steps below to reset your Mac. These steps also apply to resetting an Intel-based Mac.
- First, back up your files . You can use a physical storage or a digital cloud ecosystem for this.
- Log out of all your accounts that have payment information and profile details, such as iTunes . To do this, you can follow the steps Account - Authorizations - Deauthorize This Computer.
- Sign out of iCloud as well and turn off automatic optimization . When signing out of iCloud, Mac may ask you if you want to keep a copy of the data on Mac.
To sign out of iCloud, go to the Apple Menu, click System Preferences, select iCloud, and click "Sign Out."
- Log out of iMessage . To do this, go to Settings in the Messages app, click on the iMessage option, and find the "Log Out" button.
- Unpair all connected Bluetooth devices . To do this, go to System Preferences from the Apple Menu. Click on Bluetooth. Hover your cursor over the connected devices and click "Disconnect" one by one.
After completing all the steps above, you need to start up from macOS Recovery to completely erase your Mac. To erase an Intel Mac, follow these steps using Disk Utility:
- Turn on your Mac and quickly press CMD + R before the Apple logo appears.
- You may be asked for a password. Enter your administrator password.
- A pop-up utility window will open. Click on ''Disk Utility'' at the bottom.
- Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar.
- After the selection, the toolbar will appear. Click ''Erase'' here. Now you need to enter the disk information to be erased. For this, you will be asked for Name and Format. In the name section, write Macintosh HD. In the Format section, you need to select APFS or MacOs Extended.
- Once you've filled in the information, click the ''Erase'' button. To reinstall macOS on the Mac you reset, go back to the Utilities window and this time click the second option, Reinstall.
